Ray V. Patton

After twelve years in the Law Department of Houston-based Universal Weather and Aviation, Inc., seven of which were as Assistant General Counsel, Ray returned to private law practice in 2013. He has 25 years of legal experience, both as in-house counsel in the global general aviation services sector and software industry, and as legal advisor for clients with business interests across the U.S. and internationally.

Ray’s work at Universal Weather and Aviation, Inc. included the following: broad legal support for U.S. and international strategic transactions, alliances, and purchases/sales of business interests; establishment of U.S. and international operations locations; daily legal support for U.S. and international operations locations, to business units, and to the company in general corporate legal matters; development of client and vendor agreements; and management of the insurance portfolio for the enterprise, which included implementation of global programs and worldwide claims management.

Previously, Ray’s legal experience included broad representation of owner-operated companies, such as assistance with contracts, corporate matters, employment issues, and real estate transactions, as well as estate planning advice and assistance in probate matters to business owners and individual clients. Ray also served as in-house legal counsel for Synercom Technology, Inc., a publicly-held software company, where he provided legal support in drafting and negotiating software, systems integration, reseller, and international distributor agreements, oversaw certain international, licensing, and trademark matters, and managed the Contracts Administration Department for U.S. and international operations.

Prior to becoming a licensed attorney, Ray worked for Arthur Andersen & Company’s Consulting Division, with large project experience in the design and implementation of computer systems and procedures for companies in the banking, commercial real estate, insurance, oil & gas, and shipping industries.

In 1988, Ray completed his Doctor of Jurisprudence at South Texas College of Law and was licensed to practice law in Texas. Previously, he attended Baylor University, where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration (Finance) in 1980 and a Master of International Management in 1982.

Ray was born and raised in the Houston area, is married, and has two adult daughters.
